A section of Kenyan MPs led by Babu Owino had threatened to lead protests in Kampala

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has responded to a letter by the government of Uganda demanding action against him.

In a letter shared by the Embakasi East MP, the Ugandan government through the Ministry of East African Community Affairs took issues with the fiery legislator for meddling in its affairs and undermining its sovereignty.

The letter dated 30 Aug 2018 which is addressed to the Speaker of the Kenyan National Assembly read in part that “We therefore demand that Hon Owino be punished under the standing order of your parliament and EAC act of 2016.

Failure to act will make us write to the President of Kenya over the same. If Kenya don’t act, we will seek the intervention of EAC court of justice.”

It further warned that Babu Owino’s remarks could hurt the good bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

In response to the letter, the firebrand MP took to Social media and wrote that “Museveni should keep off,I already achieved what I wanted which was the release of Hon.Bobi wine.”

A section of youthful Kenyan MPs led by Babu Owino had threatened to lead protests in Kampala to push for the release of Bobi Wine who was in police custody at the time. He has since been set free and is currently in USA receiving treatment.

The letter read in part that “We are saddened that Hon Babu Owino has contravened the EAC statute and hence insulted the sovereignty of Uganda by openly throwing unprintable words against our president and threatening to come to Uganda with his goons to free his friend MP Bobi Wine.”
